It this time of the year again!
The Synthetic Physiology Lab turns THREE this year!
Time to celebrate!
Alvaro is presenting his recent work this week at the Gordon Research Seminar on Fibroblast Growth Factors in Development & Disease!
Alvaro will speak on Saturday March 1 at 3:45PM about our newest optogenetic developments!
Don’t miss Eva’s talk at the upcoming Annual Meeting of American Society for Cell Biology!
Eva will speak December 18 at 10:45AM about our newest optogenetic development!
Is it a light-activated channel? Is it a light-activated GPCR? Is it none of the above? Find it out at ASCB!
Tschüss, Eva and Welcome Back, Eva!
Eva completed a terrific MS thesis in our group and was accepted to the IST Austria graduate school!
Welcome onboard!
Fare ye weel, Christopher!
It has been wonderful having you as a MS student in our lab! You worked it like a boss!
A ra best!
Welcome, Alvaro!
Alvaro graduated from the lab of Jose Manuel Sanchez Ruiz at the University of Granada and just joined us a post-doc.
Buena suerte!
Welcome and Congratulations, Eva!
Eva joined us for her MS thesis and obtained an FFG FemTech fellowship for her project in our group.
Great to have you and Good luck!

Our common research goal is to shed light on biological signals with the help of synthetic molecular torches. Each of us contributes a unique background ranging from Biology to Neuroscience, Physics, and Chemistry. This enables us to design novel and multidisciplinary ways to approach classic problems in cellular signaling in mammalian systems. As an international group we work together following principles of collegiality by supporting each other to achieve our goals. Our dedication to research builds on innovation and intellectual curiosity.
Welcome to the webpage of the Molecular and Cellular Biophysics & Optogenetics lab at IST Austria!
Today is our lab’s anniversary so no better day to go live with this website than today.
Have a look around and come back as news will be posted right here whenever something interesting happens.
